Even after all the words you said, whether meant to hurt me or simply spoken as your honest truth. I still cannot bring myself to hate you.
I have searched for anger, resentment, anything that might make letting go easier, but there is nothing there. Only you.
Ever since you entered my life, it has felt strangely simple. Somewhere within me, I knew it was you. I wanted it to be you. And perhaps some part of me will always believe it should have been you.
I tried to move forward. I tried to imagine someone else occupying the space you left behind. But no one has been able to make the world feel quite the same.
Perhaps we are different. Perhaps we were never meant to want the same things at the same time. Perhaps you simply do not love me with the same depth that I love you.
And perhaps that is alright.
All I ever wanted was to take care of you, to share the ordinary and the extraordinary, the beautiful days and the unbearable ones, and grow old beside you. To me, that never sounded like too much.
So if waiting is all that remains, then I will wait quietly. A thousand lifetimes, if necessary. Millions of light-years.
You may not miss me, but I miss you. More than I ever imagined possible. Somewhere along the way, you became so deeply woven into me that remembering you no longer feels like remembering someone else. It feels like remembering a part of myself.
I no longer want to convince you with words. I want my actions to speak for everything I could never explain.
Whenever I see a beautiful flower, I think of you. Whenever I discover somewhere beautiful, my first thought is that I wish you were there beside me. I find myself imagining the places we could have gone, the evenings we could have shared, the life that might have unfolded between us.
I know none of that can happen for a long while. So I will let time do what it must. Until our paths cross again.
Your words hurt me deeply. I cannot pretend otherwise. But even through that hurt, I cannot lie about what remains.
I love you.
And I hope you are well. I hope you are safe, eating well, laughing often, discovering beautiful things, and living a life that makes you happy. I wish nothing less for you.
The other day, I walked past a wedding being photographed. For everyone else, it was simply another wedding. For me, for one brief and foolish moment, I saw you. I saw your smile. I saw myself beside you. I saw the beginning of the life I once imagined, your most beautiful day, and all the ordinary days that would come after it.
Perhaps that life will never exist. Perhaps it belongs only to a dream.
But somewhere within me, there is still a certainty that I will see you again. I will hold you again. I will see that smile again. And perhaps, one day, we will understand why we had to lose each other first.
My love for you has somehow outlived the fear that this is the end.
I do not know what the future holds. But I know I am not ready to call this the end. And I know it isn't.
