All the beautiful words that once came from you now taste bitter. Disgusting even.
One day, you told me you missed me. The next, you told me you didn't.
I still cannot understand how easily the meaning of those words could change.
I wonder what I did to deserve such confusion. Such cruelty. Such a punishment I never knew I had earned.
You loved your life before me, and you love it after me. Perhaps I was only something that existed comfortably between the two, something beautiful while it was easy, something disposable once it became real.
Perhaps that is what hurts most.
You came close when everything was light and effortless. And the moment feelings acquired weight, the moment they demanded something real, you disappeared.
Beneath the angel I thought I knew, I now imagine something colder. A demon host.
You left me burning, and walked away untouched.
I loved my life before you, too. And for a brief, beautiful moment, I thought your presence had completed something in me that I never knew was missing.
Now I wonder if meeting you was instead the greatest fracture of my life. My downfall, with no recovering from.
Blocking me may give you peace. Perhaps everything about this ending does.
You get to walk away. You get to return to your life. I am the one left standing among the ruins, trying to understand how something that meant so much to me could mean so little to you.
And I despise myself for not seeing it sooner.
How could you know, after so little time, that we were incompatible? How could you already be certain that I was not someone you could grow old with?
Perhaps you knew before I had even realised how deeply I had fallen.
And that is what I cannot forgive myself for.
You waited until I loved you before telling me I was never going to be the person you chose.
Thank you, then. For showing me how devastating trust can become when it is placed in the wrong hands. For teaching me that something can feel like the beginning of a life while quietly becoming its ending.
You won. You destroyed me.
I never wanted you to be perfect, and I would've loved all your imperfection, but you never wanted to give a chance for us to try and actually see through it.
